State and local officials have different opinions about the impact of slot machine on Fayette County community. The supporters claim that entering gambling machines into local resorts would improve the local economy, while other officials express different thoughts about the issue.
Nemacolin Woodlands Resort and Spa in Farmington and Seven Springs Mountain Resort are the two bidding companies for state slot licenses. Public hearings on the state licenses bidding will take place this spring and the licenses could be given before the end of the year.
Mike Krajovic, president of the Fay-Penn Economic Development Council, supports having slot machines in Farmington. He believes it will develop the country tourism and create jobs. He said that since many Pennsylvania residents are anyway gambling out of the state, having local slot machine would help keeping the money inside the community.
Matthew Brouillette, representative of Commonwealth Foundation said that even though slots might help the communities that host them, the new legislation might hold back the state economy. He said that the revenue from gaming would not be sufficient to help the statewide residents.
