According to a new study prepared by faculty members of the psychiatry department of University of Iowa, problem gambling may run in the family.
The study investigated 31 compulsive gamblers and their close relatives, in addition to 31 people with no gambling problems and their closest family. The study shows that the family members of problem gamblers had better chances to suffer from gambling problems. 12 percent of the problem gamblers relatives had had gambling problems in the past.
The study was sponsored by the National Center for Responsible Gaming, which is partly funded by the gambling industry.
