Gambling Expanded in Delaware

Gambling establishments in Delaware will soon have more slot machines and longer hours.

Delaware three horse race tracks and casinos will be open almost 24 hours a day, thanks to a proposal by State officials and casino officials. The Casinos will be able to keep the new hours and add to the current number of slot machines for a fee in the range of $300 to $1000 for each new machine per year for each new machine

The government feels that the new fees and the increased number of machines could give the government an extra 2.3 million in this years budget, and an additional $11.4 million for the next fiscal year beginning on July first. Supporters of the proposed plan are expected to try to get the law passed on Tuesday. The plan which besides expanding the hours and number of slot machines will also guarantee that the state will put at least one million dollars per year from the money brought in by the slot machines to help rehabilitate people with gambling problems.

The governor, who originally was against the move to 24 hour gambling had to change her mind because of the risk of loosing the states fourth larges source on money to surrounding states with legalized gambling.
