Gambling cruises are back on Miami shores, with the launching of a new gambling boat, named S.S. Horizons Edge. The boat started sailing last Friday and it offers gambling cruises in a Las Vegas style. Horizons Edge is trying to take the place of the Casino Princesa, which ran gambling cruises from Miamis Bayfront Park for the last 9 years.
Horizons Edge will have to compete with other companies that run gambling cruises, especially with SeaEscape Entertainment, which their gambling boat is sailing from Port Everglades. The CEO of Horizons Edge, David Zion, says he is not afraid of the competition and that the gambling market of South Florida has enough room for their new gaming boat.
The Horizons Edge has a capacity of 500 passengers and it provides jobs for more than 75 employees. It is the second gambling boat operated by Horizons Edge, the company Zion established 7 years ago with 4 partners. Their second gambling boat sails each summer and fall from the Boston area. The S.S. Horizons Edge used to sail seasonally from Massachusetts. When Princesa quit sailing last July Zion and his partners seized the opportunity to move it to Bayfront.
