A House bill that would permit community colleges to offer casino management courses failed in passing the required three-fifths majority.
Related bills were offered before and were always rejected by opponents who claimed that teaching casino management in community colleges would encourage gambling expansion in the society. State universities have lately protected the right to offer those courses by a court verdict.
Rep. Billy Broomfield, D-Moss Point, who promoted the bill, said it would offer better opportunities for lower class citizens, who will be able to have managing jobs at casinos instead of just hard labor work. Rep. James Evans, D-Jackson, who supported the bill claimed it is not logic to block people from achieving top jobs in an industry established by the state.
