Bookmaker Fined

Bookmaker fined 7,000 dollars for having accepted a bet from a disqualified player.

Racing Victoria found a bookmaker, Allen Cleary, guilty of having taken a bet from a sports gambling player, Anthony Cullen, who had been disqualified. Cleary has been fined 7,000 dollars. This is the second time Cleary has been found breaking phone betting rules. Cullen, on the other hand, was disqualified in July for his phone bet in the Flemington Drive Hcp, which became known as the Leone Chiara case. In April stewards disqualified him for two years for having given false evidence at the Leone Chiara Investigation.

In his defense, Cleary said that Cullen had made the bet on behalf of his brother and that is why he accepted it. However, shortly after, Cullen called him back and cancelled the bet. Taking this into account along with Clearys clean history stewards decided to be benevolent this time and apart from the fine he only received a warning.
