The three Gulf Coast casinos, which reopened after being destroyed by Hurricane Katrina, had earned 14.5 million dollars in the first ten days. Before Hurricane Katrina, the twelve Gulf Coast Casinos earned half a million dollars in daily tax income.
The Imperial Palace, Isle of Capri and Palace Casino are the three casinos that reopened their business last December. Four other casinos Treasure Bay, Beau Rivage, Copa and Silver Slipper are scheduled to reopen their Gulf Coast casinos during 2006.
The casinos reopening brought back to work 3,000 employees from the 17,000 gambling industry workers who lost their work place since the storm. Eight percent of the 1.7 million dollars taxes income goes into the states general fund and 4 percent to Harrison County, since the three casinos are placed in Biloxi.
