What is the Card Game Called 7/27?

7/27 is a card games that uses points determined by the card values to determine the winner, like blackjack and baccarat. However, the principle 0f 7/27 is a bit different from these two games. Like in blackjack, cards from 2 to 10 have the point value equal to the face value of the card and aces can be counted as 1 or 11 by the player's decision, but face cards have half a point value and the pot is split between the players whose hands values are closest to 7 and 27. The players can not bust, the further the hand of a player from the desired number, the lower his chances to win are, but he can not lose automatically.

The game of 7/27 is played in a number of rounds. At the beginning each player receives two cards, one of them face-up and the other one face-down. Than all players in the clockwise direction decide whether they want to receive an additional card or not. If none of the players choose to take an additional card, no more cards are dealt and the games proceeds to declare round. Otherwise another round takes place and every player can choose to receive another card even if he did not receive it in the previous round. However, none of the players can receive any more cards if he called for an additional cards three times. Any five card hand can not be amplified any further and is frozen until the showdown.

Declare round occurs after a game round where none of the players take additional cards. In declare round players declare whether they go for Seven or Twenty-Seven half of the pot. A player can also declare Pig, which is playing both halves at the same time. In this case the player will win the entire pot is the value of his hand is closest to both 7 and 27 and will lose otherwise. In most cases Pig is not a wise bet, but there's one hand that can not be declared other than Pig. This hand is two aces and five, which can be counted as 7 if both aces are 1 and as 27 if both of them are 11. It, actually, is the best hand in the game. Two aces with 4 or 6 also are good hands and have a chance to win the entire pot if declared as Pig.

One thing the players should agree about before playing 7/27 is how to treat ties. In the game of 7/27 hands in a tie can be high or low. For example, if one of the players has 8 points and another one has 6 points, it is a tie between a high and a low hand. The players should decide whether high or low hands win ties or share their half of the pot.
